Turkish Travertine Fireplace- Designed, Cut & Installed. Wilmington, NC
I was asked to design a fireplace for a showroom display: One that would be very adaptable in size, neutral in color, and reasonable in price. This design needed to be one that could be built around an existing firebox of masonry or steel, new or retro-fit and be available on short notice. At first I thought that was a tall-order, but as I started to get into the project I felt confident that it could be done. I first found an importer who had Turkish Travertine in stock, in many sizes, in many colors and with many moldings to match. The other good part was that this Importer is owned by the quarry in Turkey. I have a great relationship with this company and they treat me as if they want my business. We have traded for many years now and have formed a bond that is rare today. When I started to draw a design for this fireplace I was mindful of the style, as I did not want to “pigeon hole “it to any particular décor. I wanted the license to add or subtract molding, change the dimensions and use lighter or darker stone to enhance the setting. What gives us the ability to do this is our experience. We have really good equipment for cutting and fabricating custom size pieces. If you look closely, you will see that the symmetry is soothing. To accomplish this symmetry requires calculating every phase to be proportionate. The skill level is at top notch. I have seen this fire place done by others and quite frankly they don’t have the math skills or the patience to complete works it at this level. I’ve not talked about cost, as cost is relevant only to the end user. I will tell you that you can’t buy a stone fireplace of this quality, made in a factory and shipped to the job-site for what we charge to build this “one of a kind “just for you!
